Q.NO.1:  What does hunger mean on a large scale as viewed by the author?  

ANSWER: 

Hunger does not mean missing a meal for a day or two. It means never having enough to eat. It means that you are always worried about the next meal.

Q.NO.2:  Describe some great famines of the past?                                    

ANSWER:

We get the record of the first famine from an Egyptian pharaoh. In the time of Joseph, a great famine was averted due to his wisdom. Europe suffered 350 famines in 1800 years. Famine in china and Russia killed millions of people. India also faced a famine in 1964-65.

ANSWER: 

Famines occur due to the following reasons:                                                                        

(1) Over population                                                                       

(2) lack of rains                                              

(3) crops fail due to disease.

ANSWER:

The number of babies born in a community per year is called the birth-rate and the number of people who die in a community per is the death rate. If the birth rate is higher than the death rate. The population of the country is increasing.

ANSWER:

Public health measures have contributed to the increase of population control on disease and epidemics have decreased the death rate. The discovery of penicillin and D.D.T. has also brought a revolution in the field of medicine. As a result, the population of the world has increased.

ANSWER:

The people of underdeveloped countries are mostly uneducated and ignorant. They are unaware of the dangers of a huge population. So, they keep on bearing children without considering the dangers of a high birth rate.

ANSWER:

The people of developed countries are mostly educated. They are aware of the problems of over population. Thus such countries have low birth-rate.

 We can control the population explosion by creating awareness among the people about the harms of a big family.
