Introduction:

The story “Dark They were, and Golden Eyed” is a science fiction story by Ray Douglas Bradbury.  In the story “Dark They were, and Golden Eyed”, the author tries to convince the readers that war would definitely bring destruction.  While living on the earth, humans have developed aggression, anger, and violation in their behaviors which has resulted in war and destruction of the humanity. The Bittering family and almost one thousand Earth People migrate to Mars to escape from the horrible atomic war on Earth. They seem to be upset in the beginning but soon they adapt themselves there. They forget their violent past and become peace-loving humans on Mars. The main idea of the story, “Dark They Were, And Golden Eyed” is that violence and aggression would bring us destruction. So, we must avoid it.

Answer: Harry wanted to go back to earth because the climate on Mars was very extreme. It could dissolve their intellect and burn away their past.
